Roman leading the way

Leading UK shower manufacturer and designer, Roman, are leading the way by getting involved in a local initiative called Local Motion which is supported by Darlington Borough Council and Durham County Council

Local Motion are a team who are trying to get local businesses active by organising planned walks during their lunch breaks and promoting free sport activities. The first planned lunch break walk started from Aycliffe Business Park on Whitworth Avenue, which is outside the company Roman, a shower manufacturer and designer. Roman staff were eager to join the organised walk and get active on their lunch break.

The first organised lunchtime walk was close to being called off but despite the typical British weather the staff at Roman got their fleeces on and joined Steven Shepperson, Sustainable Travel Ranger on the one mile loop around Aycliffe Business Park. These lunch break walks are open to all businesses on the Aycliffe Business Park and Local Motion hope to carry out these lunchtime walks every two weeks, encouraging local businesses to get involved in the one mile route.

Team Local Motion is made up of Travel Advisors, Travel Rangers and Travel Officers. They engage with individuals and the wider community to create opportunities to learn more about travel behaviour so that healthier, cheaper and more sustainable transport options are identified for residents.

David Osborne, Managing Director of Roman commented: “We are always pro-active in supporting local initiatives here at Roman and it’s great to see that many of our staff are enthusiastic about getting involved and staying fit and active.”
